Centre for Environmental justice, together th BFFP is conducting a study to see the disposal quantities and types of plastic waste related to pandemic. The Study includes 9 selected locations at Maharagama, Kolonnawa and Kaduwela. The intention of this program is to conduct Plastic Waste Audits (PWA) in each identified location to comprehend and analyze how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the volume and characteristics of wastes generated by the selected locations.
Specific objectives of this waste audit project are to quantify and classify the healthcare wastes generated by the identified locations in the time of the COVID19 pandemic, to analyze the plastic composition of the healthcare waste, including volume, amount, and their categories, particularly looking at the personal protective equipment and to collate data and an advocacy toolkit and build the capacity of members to engage with policymakers and communities
