Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera has decided to merge eight institutions under the Ministry of Agriculture into four institutions next year. Minister Amaraweera says that this step will be taken based on the cost management recommendations and the President also expressed his approval in this regard.
Accordingly, the Milco Institute and the National Livestock Development Board (NLDB) under the Ministry of Agriculture will be merged into one institution, and the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agricultural Research and Training Institute and the Anuradhapura Post Harvest Technical Institute will be merged into one institution.
Also, the Food Promotion Board and Hadabima Authority will be made into one institution and the Lanka Fertilizer and Commercial Fertilizer Companies will also be made into one company.
The Minister emphasizes that the job opportunities of the employees of those institutions will be secure during the merger of these institutions and the changes will only happen to the Heads of the institutions and the members of the Boards of Directors.
